Information and Rules for Pick Your Own Strawberries

  • We do not require or take reservations entrance to the strawberry patch is first come first serve

  • As you enter the farm someone will greet you, give you Picking Passes, show you where to park and direct you to the field where the field attendant will show you where to pick.

Picking Passes are sold as you come on to the farm and are $5 per picker (kids under 2 are free). The Picking Pass allows you access to the strawberry patch for as long as you require to pick your berries. The picking pass will be collected at the end of your visit and the $5 will be credited towards your purchase.

  • We supply boxes and quarts for you to pick into however our boxes are $1 each. Feel free to bring your own box or reuse ours if you are a repeat customer. If you bring your own box please make sure to have it weighed before you start picking so we can ensure we do not overcharge you.

  • We have strawberry picking at The White Farm (841 Jacksonville-Mt Holly Rd.) locations. We will also have pre-picked veggies available at the checkout area. During strawberry season the Red Farm (870 Jacksonville-Mt. Holly Rd.) will be closed. Everything we have available in the field at the Red Farm will be available for purchase at the White Farm. If you do end up at the wrong location for picking that day, not to worry! Someone will direct you to the other farm which is just across the street.

  • Picking strawberries can be hard work and you will be out in the elements. Please make sure to wear comfortable clothing and appropriate farm shoes, drink/ bring water and wear sunscreen and/or wear a hat.

  • Once you have picked to your hearts content, you bring your berries to the scale house to be weight and we charge by the pound for berries. We accept cash, credit or debit cards and EBT. Once you check out we will apply the credit from your picking permit towards your total

  • If you do not wish to pick berries or didn’t get enough in the field for whatever reason we do have already picked berries at the scale house available for purchase.

  • If you are overcome with excitement and some berries happen to end up in your stomach while picking do not worry we don’t charge for taste testing. We just ask that you do not over-indulge in taste testing.

  • Our berries are safe to eat right off the plant. We do encourage you to wash them before you eat them just to remove any pollen or dust.

  • Besides strawberries the farm will have other available spring crops for pick your own. For more information please see the spring season page

How to Pick Strawberries

Picking Strawberries can be hard but it does not have to be. Follow these steps and you will have a full basket in no time!

  1. Strawberries grow close to the ground. While bending over from the hips is the quickest way to start it can get hard on your back after just a short time. We recommend kneeling down next to the beds to get to the correct level for picking. Many people bring a seat or a mat to kneel on which we encourage.

  2. Strawberries like to hide. Make sure to move the leaves of the plant around to check for berries hidden underneath.

  3. While it is tempting to pick only the biggest berries off each plant, it is much quicker and easier to pick all the ripe berries off one plant and then move to the next.

  4. Pick the berries with some of the stem attached. Simply grab the stem with two hands and pull apart. If you would like to be shown how to pick please ask the field attendant.

  5. We will be placing you in a row to make it easy for you to find berries. You are welcome to pick on both sides of your row. If you do move between rows we ask that you step in the middle of the plastic bed and be very careful to not squish any berries or plants in the process.

  6. If you need any help or have any questions please find our field attendants they will be happy to help!

How To Tell If A Strawberry is Ripe

  • This Berry is Under-Ripe. It is not quite red all the way to the tip and the color is a bit to light where it is red. This one will need another week or so to fully ripen. While the berry will still be good it will not be as good as a Fully Ripe Berry

  • This is the Perfect Berry! It is Red all the way to the tip and will be delicious!

  • This Berry is slightly Over-Ripe. The color is too dark and the skin of the berry has started to wrinkle. While this will be very sweet and can be good for making jam the consistency will not be perfect for eating on its own. Your Perfect Berries may look like this after a few days on the counter, they are still very good and you should eat them!
